Fish Creek

Just a short 10 minute drive from the hotel is the Fish Creek Wildlife Observation site located in Hyder, Alaska. The observation site is open in the summer and has a platform for visitors to watch salmon runs and bear hunting. Other common wildlife that regularly spotted at Fish Creek are minks, beavers and a variety of birds.

Salmon Glaciers

A must see when staying up in Stewart, just 25 kms north of town is Salmon Glaciers. The 5th largest glacier in Canada, Salmon Glacier is accessible in the summer months by road from Hyder, Alaska. Stop into the Stewart Visitors Centre on your way up to get your complimentary copy of the Self-Guided Auto Tour that provides details of stops and the history of all the sights.

Snowmobiling

With its renowned terrain and bottomless powder, Stewart is a snow sport lovers dream come true. Having so much open terrain, frequent fresh snow, and no overcrowding Stewart is the perfect location for making the most out of snowmobiling season.

Hyder Alaska

A small town deeply rich in history and culture on the panhandle and right on the border is Hyder Alaska. A very short 10 minute drive from the hotel and you will arrive in this the most eastern town in Alaska. Often referred to as the “friendliest ghost town in Alaska, Hyder is known for its grizzly and black bear viewings and salmon spawning at Fish Creek Wildlife Observation site.

Hiking

Escape to the peace and quiet of the forest trails surrounding Stewart. Find a complete listing of pathways and trails on the Tourism Stewart website. This includes the Rainey Creek Trail that circles around the entire town, the Ore Mountain Trail that steeply climbs up Ore Mountain and the Sluice Box Trail among others.

Estuary Boardwalk

Located right next to the Stewart Visitor Centre is the local estuary and boardwalk. When in Stewart be sure to enjoy a walk offering views of birds, wildlife and plants. Families enjoy the area for picnics and provides a peaceful resting place for hikers.

Bear Glacier Provincial Park

A short ride on Highway 37A between Meziadin Junction and Stewart., the Bear Glacier descends towards Strohn Lake, down Bear River Pass. At the very least be sure to stop at the viewing point and take a look at the breathtaking views of the glacier and the rich forests around it. Many of the glaciers can be seen from the highway itself.
